Chinchinim gram sabha raises issue of power and water infra

MARGAO

A host of issues took centre stage at the Chinchinim gram sabha on Sunday.

Members raised issues ranging from power and water infrastructure to tenant verification. They also raised the status of the long-delayed panchayat ghar and multipurpose complex.

With new housing projects coming up in the village, members demanded to know whether the panchayat checks the power and water supply availability before granting the licence.

Sarpanch replied by saying the panchayat insists the owner produce the power and water supply availability at the time of issuance of the Occupancy Certificate.

Members demanded that owners of multi-dwelling units be asked to set up their power transformers to take care of the power needs of the housing society.

Members also raised the issue of tenant verification, demanding to know whether the panchayat is kept in the loop by the Goa Police. Pointing out that the police do not send a copy of the tenant verification to the panchayat, the Sarpanch said the respective ward members will be asked to keep a watch on the tenants in the wards.

One of the members raised the issue of the non-release of water in the Selaulim canal for irrigation. The sarpanch, however, told the member to raise the issue with WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, who is visiting the village on Monday morning.

The issue over the action taken against the piggery at Palmar Grande came up for discussion, wherein the sarpanch said the panchayat has already held an inspection and action will follow as per the rules.

On the long-pending panchayat ghar cum multipurpose complex project, the sarpanch said the file is pending with the Finance department.

The sarpanch said the special gram sabha had in the past opposed the TCP Amendments as well as the Jetty Policy 2022.

He later told the media that the gram sabha has approved a proposal to name a village road after noted tiatirst late Mario Menezes.

Velim MLA Cruz Silva, who attended the meeting, was urged by members to take up village issues with the respective departments for redressal.
