Goa is among several tourist destinations in the country with high concentration of Israeli Jew visitors put on high alert following intelligence inputs of a possible terror attack as revenge for the shootings in mosques at Christchurch, New Zealand which killed 50 Muslim worshippers.

A top police officer said on Monday that an alert has been issued to Goa and several other States where there are synagogues or high concentration of Jewish residents or Israeli tourists.

Areas frequented by the Israeli tourists in Goa are being kept under constant surveillance, the officer said, adding that prayer houses they use are potential high-risk

targets.

The threat is apparently from the IS (Islamic State) or Al-Qaeda who according to the intelligence input could target the Jews for revenge, the top officer said.

Goa police records show several Israelis staying in the State on long-visas. There are certain locales which they stay in and also a prayer house they visit frequently in North Goa which is being kept under constant watch, the officer said.

Security beefed up at Palolem’s Chabad House

CANACONA: Canacona police has beefed up surveillance at South Goa’s lone Chabad House in Palolem, amid inputs from Central Intelligence agencies of a possible terror strike on Israeli tourists in the State. The Chabad House was put on enhanced police surveillance, following threats of terror attacks.
