Chicalim Parish Priest Dr Bolmax Pereira said Christmas is a right occasion to identify, accept and honour the marginalised and downtrodden sections of society.
Fr Pereira thanked the garbage workers for giving villagers the opportunity to acknowledge the role of garbage workers in the lives of Chicalim villagers.
He also appreciated the gesture of Chicalim villagers for adopting this unique theme to promote the Christmas joy and happiness with this section of society, which is generally unrecognised and unappreciated.
“Garbage workers are among the most vulnerable sections of society under the direct threat of infection from Covid-19. However, without fearing for their lives, they have served society in every village of Goa clearing the garbage that also included the medical waste generated due to the pandemic,” acknowledged Fr Pereira.
“Neither the government nor other organisations have acknowledged the efforts put in by various garbage collectors in keeping our cities and villages clean and safe. The Chicalim Parish decided to honour our garbage workers and have a memorable event for them,” he added.
