Former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao on Wednesday made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to relax the timings of wedding receptions of the Catholic community from 10 pm to 12 midnight.
Churchill said it would go a long way even if the Chief Minister get the Centre to relax the wedding timings from 10 pm to 11.30 pm.
Addressing the media, Churchill pointed out that wedding receptions of the Catholic community are cut short due to the 10 pm timings enforced in the state.
“Since the Chief Minister enjoys excellent relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I request Pramod Sawant to take up the matter with the Centre to give relief to the people of Goa, especially from the minority community”, he said.
He added: “I understand there’s law in force which is applicable throughout the country that you cannot use sound beyond 10 pm. Since this law came into force, Christian wedding receptions have been getting affected over the years. It is my humble request to the Chief Minister to take up the issue with the Prime Minister to relax the timings for weddings till 11.30 pm if not 12 midnight”.
Asked to shed light on the voting pattern in the May 7 polls, Churchill said he has nothing to comment, except that the candidate having more public support will win the election.
