Churchill backs BJP govt; NCP asks him for explanation in writing

Taking serious cognizance of the support extended by its Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao to the BJP government during the confidence motion moved in the House on Thursday, NCP’s central leadership has issued him a show cause notice and is likely to initiate action under the anti-defection law against the Benaulim strongman if he fails to explain his actions within seven days.

PANAJI: 
NCP permanent secretary and member of the party’s central working committee working committee S R Kohli issued a show-cause notice to Churchill asking him to explain within seven days the reasons why he participated in the BJP meeting and supported the formation of the BJP government without seeking consent of NCP’s central leadership.
“This is against our party’s constitution. You are issued this show cause notice to explain within seven days as to why you did this, failing which, necessary disciplinary action would be taken against you as per the anti-defection law and our party’s constitution,” reads the notice.
