Cigarettes seized in police raids

A team of a Mumbai-based cigarette company, along with local police, conducted raids by invoking provision of COTPA Act at some shops along the costal belt in Salcete and seized spurious cigarettes worth around Rs 1.95 lakh.

According to Colva police, the team of Mumbai-based company arrived in Goa and conducted raids based on specific information it sourced regarding the sale of spurious/duplicate cigarettes sold under the company’s brand name along the coastal belt.
 In the first such raid conducted at a shop in Varca on Thursday, the company’s team, together with Colva police, seized spurious/duplicate cigarettes worth Rs 95,000 which were sold under the company’s brand name.  
A day earlier, similar raid was conduced in Benaulim where cigarettes worth Rs 1 lakh were siezed.
