MARGAO

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Tuesday said that Margao will soon witness a host of infrastructure development projects which would change the face of the commercial capital.

Addressing party workers from Margao at the BJP workers melava in the city on Tuesday, the former Chief Minister said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has cleared the development projects by making provision in the current budget.

He also thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for resolving the long-standing demand of Municipal workers for regularisation of their services, saying the move to accord temporary status for the daily wage workers will give relief to many a Margao Municipal worker hailing from the downtrodden section of society.

Unveiling the major projects cleared by the Chief Minister in this year’s budget, Kamat said the district police  headquarters will be refurbished along with the Old Collectorate building. He further said the Margao Municipal heritage building will be restored to its pristine glory with planned renovation and repairs.

As far as the multi-level parking at Old fish market is concerned, Kamat said the Expression of Interest floated by the government will be opened on May 5.

That’s not all. Kamat said he has allocated funds under the MLA Local Area Development scheme for taking up works in the New market and Gandhi market. He said the work on a new pipeline and installation of fire hydrants will commence soon.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant showered praises on the Margao MLA, saying Kamat has a vision to take Margao to greater heights. “He is one MLA who is an asset for the BJP. We should all work in Margao and Fatorda, besides other constituencies in Salcete”, the Chief Minister added.

In his address, BJP State president Damu Naik made a plea to the party rank and file to gear up for the 2027 Assembly polls to achieve the target of winning 27 seats.
