The Goa Medical College (GMC) Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on Monday submitted the medical certificates of the detained CJP protesters to the High Court of Bombay at Goa in a sealed cover. The matter will now be heard on November 3.
Of the seven Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protesters detained by the police at Azad Maidan on Sunday, six underwent medical examinations after their release.
The submission came after the CMO failed to produce the medical reports as directed by the High Court during a special hearing on Sunday evening. The court had subsequently directed the CMO to submit the certificates in a sealed cover by the next hearing on October 19.
The police inspectors of Panaji and Pernem had earlier filed their affidavits in response to petitions challenging the detention of the protesters.
In his affidavit, the Panaji Police Inspector stated that the protest was held without the requisite permission and that some protesters were placed under preventive detention based on their past conduct. He also maintained that there was no plan to detain the protesters overnight, while also alleging CJP’s support for Umar Khalid, an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case, citing an incident in which a protester displayed a placard bearing his name.
