In a virtual clash of identity of candidates backed by a certain politically affluent family at Chaudi, the electorate of Ward 2 of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) have been informed that their support to the contesting candidate has nothing to do with the family name.
Chaudi resident R B S Komarpant, also known as ‘Soiru Komarpant’ and his younger brother Sanjay Komarpant, in the presence of BJP-backed Chaudi candidate Perpeta Jacques, jointly addressed a news conference on Wednesday and stated that while canvassing in the ward they were questioned by the electorate as to why they were (Komarpants) canvassing for some other candidate when Soiru’s wife is contesting.
Clarifying the situation, R B S Komaprant, a social worker, tiatrist and Konkani activist, informed that there is one more resident in Chaudi by the name Soiru Komarpant, whose wife, Chaya Soiru Komarpant, is contesting the municipal polls.
Sanjay Komarpant said that they were constantly being asked as to why they were canvassing for Perpeta, a BJP-backed candidate, while his elder brother's (RBS alias Soiru) wife is contesting.
“We have called this news conference to clear the air that we have nothing to do with the candidature of Chaya Soiru Komarpant, who is not my brother's wife, but the wife of another Soiru Komarpant,” said Sanjay.
Perpeta, who was also present for the news conference, said, “It is unfair to tarnish someone's name by false allegations. At least, the electorate is aware that my name and surname are different and not confusing.”
Incidentally, Sanjay Komarpant is the vice-president of BJP's Canacona block and is actively involved in canvassing, but Soiru, widely known as a Congressmen, had reportedly proposed Perpeta’s name as the joint candidate of Chaudi, but later her candidature was endorsed by BJP against 12 other claimants at Chaudi.
“However, three other candidates who sought BJP's blessings are also contesting along with Perpeta and two others,” informed Sanjay Komarpant.
