'CM assured to solve kabrastan by changing zone of Sonsodo land’

MARGAO

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday has assured a delegation of citizens from Margao that the government is seized of the burning kabrastan issue and would resolve the issue by changing the zone of the Sonsodo land.

Addressing the media after a meeting with the Chief Minister along with deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, Margao Municipal Councilor Mahesh Amonkar and Riyaz Sheikh said the Chief Minister has promised to resolve the issue by bringing changes to the zoning of the Sonsodo land.

Riyaz said the Chief Minister was categorical in promising that the Sonsodo land would be restored for the kabrastan at a meeting to be convened shortly. “I thank the Chief Minister for the promise to change the zone for Kabrastan. The CM had all the information about who were the persons who were responsible for changing the zone”, he said.

Councilor Mahesh Amonkar said CM has promised to resolve the issue within one month, warning that he would be forced to again go on a hunger strike if the government goes back on its promise. “The Chief Minister was clear in saying the kabrastan will come only at Sonsodo. He is not ready to give Rs 16 crore for the acquisition of land for the kabrastan at Khareband”, he said.

Amonkar alleged that a member of the Muslim community had offered him Rs two crore to withdraw the hunger striker, but said he would disclose the name at the right time.
