MARGAO
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took the platform of “Government to the People’s Doorsteps” in Cuncolim on Sunday to talk plain politics, reassuring Saxttikars that his government does not believe in discrimination on the development front, as he dished out hopes to the jobless youth from Cuncolim that no injustice will be done to them during recruitment process for filling up 10,000 vacant government jobs.
That’s not all. The platform came in handy for the Chief Minister to justify his decision to get Goa Forward ministers resign from the Cabinet. He also took Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat head on, reminding that the Congress need not teach the BJP how to run a government when the opposition party is rudderless at the Centre and in Goa, with leaders deserting the party everywhere.
While reminding Digambar that Luizinho Faleiro has already quit the party and joined TMC, the Chief Minister said another Congress MLA is on his way out and a third one is thinking when to leave the party, the CM assured the people of Goa that they will not see a single pothole on the Goan roads from November 1.
Descending on Cuncolim ‘Government at the People’s Doorsteps’, with Fisheries Minister and Velim MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias in tow, the Chief Minister received a grand welcome from party workers as slogans in support of the government and the party rent the air.
Saying that the winds of election have started blowing, though the election are scheduled in February 2022, the Chief Minister assured the government will accelerate the speed of development in the next three months. Since the programme was meant for Cuncolim and Velim constituencies, the Chief Minister at this juncture assured that Salcete will not remain backward on the development front, saying development will go forward in the minority dominated taluka as well.
Saying that the media questioned him just before he entered the pandal, why he had got rid of Goa Forward from his government, the Chief Minister said those who had selfish interest were shown the door since his government has been working for the interest of the common man at heart.
He took pot shots from the platform to target those indulging in politics to stop the health project in Cuncolim, reminding that these very people had created hurdles for Cuncolim MLA Clafacio to take forward development in the constituency five years ago.
Dishing out hopes with an eye on the youth, the Chief Minster assured that all the 10,000 vacancies will be advertised and filled up by November. “So far, the government has advertised 7000 vacancies and the process is underway to fill up the posts”, he said, while reassuring the youth from Cuncolim that no injustice will be done while filling up the vacancies.
Reminding that the state had faced the menace of potholes during the tenure of the Congress government, Sawant said Kamat should remember that potholes were the order of the day when he was in power. “Kamat need not tell us how to rule the state. His party is today without leadership at the state and the centre”, he said, while assuring that all the potholes will disappear by November 1.
Casinos no issue, it’s part
of tourism industry: CM
MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that Casinos will not be an issue in the coming Assembly election, saying casinos are now part of the Tourism industry.
He also said that the government is addressing the issue of unemployment, by making jobs available for the youth in government, semi-government and the private sector.
When the Chief Minister was questioned by outstation media whether the government’s patronage for casinos amounts to double standards since the party had opposed casino culture while in the opposition, Sawant said “there are no double standards on the issue of casinos. The Congress had brought in the casinos. And, casinos are now part of the tourism industry. I do not think, casinos are an issue in the coming election”.
