PANAJI: With the power situation in Goa seemingly worsening by the day, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar called up Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar and directed him to ensure that the frequency and duration of power cuts are drastically reduced.
Confirming this, Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said that he has taken the Chief Minister’s advice and will henceforward not be issuing any new high tension power connections while also summoning a meeting of all section heads.
“The Chief Minister called me from the US. He too is worried about the power situation. I have briefed him about the situation in Goa and have called a meeting of all higher level officers to deal with the situation,” Madkaikar said.
Madkaikar claimed that the scheduled work which was to be completed on Sunday, got delayed on account of rain and hence which ensured that power had to be switched off for more than the scheduled shutdown time.
The Department was in the process of changing and shifting a power line, but because of the evening rain, the work was delayed.
The Chief Minister has also told the power minister to immediately change the old and weak power infrastructure in a bid to ensure that there are no power cuts.
