Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar sought to dismiss reports that parts of North Goa will face water shortages in view of the maintenance work being carried out at the Tillari irrigation project.
Addressing media persons, Parsekar said the only two plants that will face water shortages are that of Chandel and Assonora and both had the capacity to tide over the shortages with the help of river water.
“The yearly maintenance on the Tillari canal is being done. This has been done previously too. They had informed us in advance. In the case of Chandel plant it can take water from the river to meet the needs of the people of the region. In the case of the Assonora plant, the river can meet only 80 MLD while its requirements are 110 MLD. This will be borne by pumping water from the Amthane Dam which in turn will get water from the Sal bhandara,” Parsekar said. The Tillari canal will be closed from November 20 till December 20 leaving the canals which supply to parts of North Goa dry.
The closure set of panic in certain segments forcing the chief minister to clarify on the issue.
