Asks young athletes to aim for 2036 Olympics

The state government is concerned about the future of Class VIII pass students, Class X dropouts and educated youth. A three-month Deendayal Mukhyamantri Kaushalya Yojana course has been started to help them build skills, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in Sanquelim.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new office and library of Eagle Sports Club. Municipal Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu, Deputy Chairperson Dayanand Boryekar, councillors and club members were present.
The CM stressed the need to promote traditional sports and begin preparing youngsters for the 2036 Olympics. He said players should obtain Form-4 certificates so they can apply for government jobs under the sports quota. The aim is to create a strong generation through skill and social education.
Sawant said around 80 per cent of development works in Sanquelim are complete and major changes will be visible within six months. Road works, beautification from Supachipud to the hospital, the stretch from the bus stand to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, the extension to Dattawadi bridge, work at the fort and along the Valvanti river are expected soon.
He urged traders not to keep goods on roads and suggested shifting the weekly market to Sunday. The club also plans to start a cricket academy.
