MARGAO
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant once again returned to Cuncolim, the segment represented by Opposition leader Yuri Alemao to drum up support for BJP South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo.
This is the third time that the Chief Minister with Pallavi Dempo and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai in tow descended in Cuncolim along with ex-Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar and former Cuncolim BJP MLAs Clafacio Dias and Rajan Naik for a meeting with the karyartakas on Tuesday evening.
In his address in support of Pallavi Dempo, the Chief Minister said that neither the Congress candidate Viriato Fernandes nor Cuncolim MLA and Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao will do anything for Cuncolim or for Goa.
Questioning Congress candidate Viriato’s reported charge that the BJP has imposed Pallavi Dempo on the people of South Goa, the Chief Minister said the Congress candidate has no right to question the party candidate, reminding that Pallavi had her roots in Assolna and Margao.
Reminding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has passed the Bill to provide 33 per cent reservations for the mahilas in the State assemblies and in Parliament, Sawant said the BJP has made a beginning by providing 50 per cent reservations in Goa by fielding Pallavi Dempo for the South Goa seat.
Charging the Congress for seeking votes in the name of religion and caste, the Chief Minister said the BJP has gone about asking votes in the name of development and Viksit Bharat.
In her address, Pallavi told the karyakartas that a vote for her means a vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his vision for Viksit Bharat.
She outlined the development made by the country in the field of sports and women empowerment under Modi’s rule. She also said that Goa has made rapid progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant over the last five years.
