PANAJI: CM Pramod Sawant has asked South Goa authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of Vaishnavi, a third-year Electronics and Communication Engineering student at BITS Pilani-Goa campus.
Speaking to reporters today, Sawant said, “We need to understand why such incidents are taking place. A detailed inquiry has been ordered, and strict action will be taken if needed." He added that while students may be under pressure, the exact cause of these incidents needs to be understood to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Vaishnavi was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday night, marking the sixth student death at the campus in the past 13 months. A preliminary check recovered a suicide note, and authorities stated no external or suspicious elements were involved.
Verna police recorded statements from fellow students, the hostel warden, and Vaishnavi’s parents, who arrived on Monday. A post-mortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to the family for final rites.
