Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday sought to reassure Madgavkars that the government has a solution for the vexed Sonsodo issue, saying the administration has even finalized a technology which will be implemented at Sonsodo once the legal issues between the Margao Municipal Council and Fomento are resolved.
“Once the legal issues between Fomento and the MMC are resolved, the government would move in at Sonsodo with a technology to handle the waste problem,” the Chief Minister told the media during his interaction on a city visit on Monday.
Saying the government has already put in place the Saligao waste treatment plant and three more plants at Cacora, Bainguinim and Verna are in the pipeline, the Chief Minister said the government will take a call on setting up the fifth plant at Sonsodo once the legal issues between the MMC and Fomento are addressed.
“I have been in touch with Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai, who is closely monitoring the waste problem of the commercial capital. Those criticizing the government should understand that the plant had come up when the Congress government was in power. Though government is a continuous process, care ought to have been taken to protect the interest of the state,” Sawant said.
Saying that the government is ready to intervene at Sonsodo anytime, but has been held back because of the legal agreement between the MMC and Fomento, the Chief Minister said the government has almost finalized the technology to resolve the Sonsodo waste imbroglio.
Meanwhile, the CM told the media that the process of filling up the 200 MBBS seats at the GMC is underway, adding that the process will be completed as per the rules in force.
