Saying that charity begins at home, All India Congress Secretary Girish Chodankar has asked Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar to first ask his Cabinet members and MLAs if they possess illegal guns and whether they promote goondagiri and drugs.
Reacting to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's statement at the inauguration of Fatorda Police station that he is concerned over the entry of the illegal gun culture, drugs and goondagiri, Chodankar said "If your cabinet colleagues possess illegal guns, what can you expect this from public at large".
He dared Parrikar to check with his cabinet and MLAs whether they are in possession of unlicensed guns and force them to surrender before asking public to do so.
"If you are serious about goondagiri please ask those in govt to stop promoting the same," Chodankar dared chief minister, while saying it is easy to make such swaying statements to get applauded, but underlined the need to walk the talk.
While coming down heavily on drugs, Chodankar said the Chief Minister should first resolve the issue of drugs within his own
Govt since the cabinet members and party MLAs are accusing each other for promoting drugs, pointing out that even one of the minister has been on record stating that police are involved in promoting drugs.
"If you are serious on this front, please hand over the drugs case to CBI which will also check the statement of your ministers about police and politician nexus,"
he said. Chodankar also requested the CM to disclose if his ministers and MLAs have given him information on drugs which he had asked them publicly, saying CM owes this information to Goans.
While welcoming the decision to have a separate police station for Fatorda, he said "I only wish that this police station will be
people friendly rather than politician friendly, and that it will not be used to keep people under constant terror and fear".
