Chief Minister Pramod Sawant came to the rescue of a two-wheeler rider injured in a road accident at Navelim, Sanquelim, on Wednesday morning, administering first aid before arranging for his transport to a health centre.
The incident occurred when Sudesh Velgekar of Velguem, Bicholim, was riding a two-wheeler near the Betal temple when a cow suddenly ran onto the road. The vehicle struck the animal, causing Velgekar to fall and sustain injuries.
At the time, Sawant was travelling in a motorcade to Panaji. On noticing the injured rider lying on the road and bleeding, the chief minister stopped his motorcade, stepped out of his vehicle and administered first aid. He reportedly bandaged the rider’s head to control the bleeding.
A 108 ambulance was alerted to transport the injured youth to hospital.
However, as the ambulance could not arrive immediately, Sawant arranged for Velgekar to be taken to the Betki Health Centre in one of his escort vehicles before proceeding to Panaji.
The youth was later referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for further treatment.
