Coastal body cracks whip against illegal hoardings in CRZ

PANAJI

Acting tough against the illegal hoardings put up in CRZ areas, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has written to all the coastal village panchayats, the Corporation of the City of Panaji and municipal councils coming within the jurisdiction of CRZ areas, directing them to remove all the illegal hoardings erected in the coastal areas.

The directions have been issued based on the High Court order dated June 16, wherein the coastal body was asked to file a response on ‘the action proposed to be taken against the illegal hoardings upon identifying such hoardings’.

The GCZMA has received a report on illegal hoardings along the coastal belt from the district collectors based on which directions have been issued to the coastal local bodies to remove all the hoardings erected in the coastal areas as the same are without any approvals.

“If found otherwise the concerned parties may be directed to approach the GCZMA and submit proof of legalities. Based on the documentation individual decisions will be taken in the matter,” the Authority said.

Earlier, the High Court had also directed the State government, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), municipal councils, village panchayats and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to submit the status of all the existing hoardings.
