A student of the Khandola College died in a road mishap near the Bhoma market on Wednesday.

According to reports, the mishap took place as a container truck was going from Kundaim to Banastari, while Sneha Prabhu (21) of Kalmamol-Borim and a friend were travelling on a two-wheeler towards Banastarim, en route to their college.

On reaching near a speed breaker at the Bhoma market, the rider lost control of the two-wheeler and Prabhu came under the rear wheels of the container truck. She died on the spot.

Following the mishap, traffic was disrupted along the route for about two hours. A Ponda police team led by PI Mohan Gaude went to the site and later cleared the traffic. The body was sent for an autopsy to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.

Ponda police has arrested the container driver Mehboob Gunari (39) of Hubballi-Karnataka in this connection and investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, Bhoma-Adcolna Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar expressed sadness over the fatal road mishap and requested the government to widen the road.

"The panchayat has sent repeated requests to the government, but nothing has been done in the matter. This is an accident-prone zone and many have lost their lives here before," said Bhomkar.
