Ahead of Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy’s visit to the iconic beach, local authorities were on the job to spruce up the beach square and maintain the area spick-and-span.
The Union Minister along with Union Minister of State for Tourism Sripad Naik, Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar is expected to descend at Colva during the weekend to inaugurate a slew of projects, including changing rooms and toilet blocks at both Colva and Benaulim, besides the children’s park at Colva under the Swadesh Darshan Coastal Circuit projects.
The projects executed under the plan at both Colva and Benaulim includes parking lot, tourist facilitation centre and public convenience facilities, including changing rooms and toilet blocks.
Ahead of the inauguration, visitors could come across a flurry of activity on the Colva beach square on Friday. Workers were seen sweeping the beach square with brooms, removing the sand that has accumulated on the road, which has been posing danger to motorists.
Cranes were also pressed into service to repair the street lights installed at the beach square under the circuit development plan. Locals said many lamps which have been installed at the beach square under the circuit development plan have been non-functioning for many days now, but have been repaired on the eve of the central Minister’s visit.
That’s not all. A group of masons were on the job to re-fix tiles on the newly-constructed bench, which had given way in recent days.
A senior official pointed out that the workers were giving final touches to the work since the projects were all executed around six months ago. “The changing rooms, and the toilets, besides the illumination and the seating benches were all put up some time ago. The workers were drafted just to replace the non-functioning items,” the official added.
The Union Minister is expected to inaugurate the public convenience facilities at both Colva and Benaulim from Colva.
