The Colva police on Monday descended on the Colva beach to rein in on tourists moving on the beach without masks and booked around 46 violators. The drive enriched the treasury by Rs 9200.
Colva police station in-charge, PI Melson Colaco and his team descended on the beach on Monday evening after reports of tourists
flouting the Covid norms like wearing masks and social distancing.
Since the domestic tourists have been visiting the beach belt in groups, the police constituted a 10-member team to ensure that the tourists comply with the pandemic norms in place.
The police action assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of reports that revenue officials, who were drafted to challan the erring visitors, had to face unruly tourists on the beach.
Incidentally, the suggestion mooted by the Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar to install a microphone with a pre-recorded message in Hindi and English, making the visitors aware of the mandatory Covid norms is yet to fall in place at the Colva beach entrance to date.
