Commode on footpath of Lohia Maidan shows ODF Goa: Oppn leader

MARGAO

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has said that the commode lying on the footpath of the historic Lohia Maidan on the eve of Goa Liberation Day reflects the Open Defecation Free Goa under the BJP government.

“What is most unfortunate is that the refurbishment of Lohia Maidan remains incomplete,” the Opposition leader stated.

Releasing a video of a commode and drunkards on the footpath of historic Lohia Maidan, the Leader of the Opposition charged that the BJP government is neglecting the maintenance of historic places and insulting freedom fighters.

Saying that monuments, documents and symbols linked to Goa Liberation Movement need to be protected and preserved for posterity, Yuri appealed to the Chief Minister to notify all places of historic importance, asserting that renovation and refurbishment of all such places need to be taken up on topmost priority.

“I had raised the issue of preservation of places of historic importance in Goa in the last Assembly session. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had promised to notify all such places including Lohia Maidan, Azad Maidan, Martyrs Memorial at Assolna and Patradevi and other places. It appears that the government has not done anything till now," Yuri Alemao said.

"The Chieftains Memorial at Cuncolim also needs renovation. Lohia Memorial at Assolna also needs refurbishment. Why the government is neglecting these places?" questioned Yuri Alemao saying he is feeling sad that the monuments have become dens of drunkards and anti-socials and authorities are turning a blind eye to the menace created by them.
