Mormugao has recently seen a steady rise in Covid cases across the takuka, causing concern among authorities and residents alike.
The latest health bulletin on Monday showed that were 225 active Covid cases in the taluka which have been recorded by the Vasco Urban Health Centre (90), Cansaulim Primary Health Centre (63) and Cortalim Primary Health Centre (72).
Dr Anil Umbraskar, Health Officer and Medical Superintendent at Chicalim Sub District Hospital informed The Goan that there were around 150 persons visiting the hospital for testing everyday.
"The positivity rate is around 5-6 percent and around 7-8 persons test positive on an average. We have been getting good response to the Covid vaccination and we have been vaccinating around 150 people on an average per day," said Dr Umbraskar.
He has advised people to continue being careful and to take necessary precautions against Covid.
“People must continue to take precautions and some private functions like birthdays, anniversaries and parties can be held in a subdued manner to avoid overcrowding.”
“If we take such steps, we can prevent the Covid wave, failing which we will have rising cases and a strain on our healthcare system,” said Dr Umbraskar.
