Congress’s Goy Rakhonn Yatra rolled into Velim, the constituency represented by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Cruz Silva as party leaders and workers turned out in large numbers as they walked from Chinchinim to Assolna on Saturday evening.

Party leaders including GPCC chief Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress working presidents, MLA Altone D’Costa and Sunil Kawthankar led party leaders and workers as they marched on the roads of the constituency, with a call to dislodge the BJP government in 2027.

Congress leaders Savio D’Silva, Velim ZP panchayat member Julio Fernandes along with the Velim Block Congress Committee welcomed the rally at the party office in Chinchinim.

D’Silva told the media at the starting point of the yatra at Chinchinim that the rally has evoked good response from the people of Velim constituency. Saying the people of Goa are looking for a change in 2027, D’Silva, who had lost the 2022 election by a whisker, said Velim will take the lead to bring about the change in the coming election.

Incidentally, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, whose name is doing the rounds in political circles as a potential candidate for Velim in 2027 if Quepem is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, was one of the prominent figures who joined the yatra. Another ticket aspirant for the Velim seat, Joel Andrade also joined the rally along with party leaders.

Amongst others who participated in the yatra were former Velim Independent MLA Benjamin D’Silva, former sarpanchas of Chinchinim Frank Viegas and Valentino Baretto and others.
