MARGAO
Even as the two political parties brace for discussions on forging an alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections, leaders of the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party were involved in a spat, with each accusing the other of interfering in their respective constituencies.
Congress Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa accused AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi Marlena of moving around in his constituency and interacting with party workers. He cautioned that Goans would not be swayed by gifts such as tea mugs and umbrellas.
AAP Working President Gerson Gomes hit back at D’Costa’s remarks that he would contest from Velim if Quepem is reserved as an ST seat.
Gomes accused Congress of talking about an alliance while its MLAs were allegedly working to undermine it for their personal ambitions, which he claimed often resulted in defections to the BJP.
He said D’Costa’s remarks were not the first “malicious” comments against AAP and alleged that Congress MLAs appeared eager to sabotage the alliance.
Gomes reminded Goans that Congress MLAs had become known for defecting to the BJP during the last two election cycles and said the party once again appeared unable to control its MLAs.
He urged Congress to put Goa and Goans before the personal ambitions of its MLAs.
