Congress campaign in Aldona constituency suffered its first setback after one of the ticket aspirants, Mahesh Satelkar, quit the party and will now contest on MGP ticket.
In a fast moving development, Satelkar quit Congress on Friday and was allotted the MGP ticket on Saturday.
Satelkar had begun door-to-door campaigning more than a month back, expecting to corner the Congress ticket from the constituency.
He was one of the contenders for the ticket until Congress declared North Goa District Congress President Amarnath Panjikar’s name as its Aldona candidate on Wednesday.
The local Block Congress had recommended five names from Aldona “ Amarnath Panjikar, Trajano D’Mello, Mahesh Satelkar, Freddy Fernandes and Sandesh Narvekar.
General Secretary and spokesman of Congress Trajano D’Mello said he accepted the party’s decision, but two aspirants “ Freddy Fernandes and Sandesh Narvekar “ are likely to react strongly to the decision to allot the party ticket to Panjikar.
