The Congress on Thursday launched a statewide campaign against what it termed the BJP-led government’s attempts to “sell Goa’s land” to outsiders, and released a missed-call helpline for citizens to register their protest.
The campaign, titled ‘Goy Vikpak Divche Na, BJP’k Jikpak Divche Na’ (Won’t Let Goa Be Sold, Won’t Let BJP Win), was launched on August 17 under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MP Viriato Fernandes and other senior leaders said the campaign would be taken to every corner of the State.
The party alleged that Goa had repeatedly witnessed attempts under the BJP government to transfer the State’s land to outsiders, citing the use of provisions such as Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act.
Congress leaders said the issue had emerged as one of the major concerns facing Goa, with growing public anger over what they described as the erosion of the State’s land, identity and way of life.
As part of the campaign, Congress has launched a missed-call number 8080963939, through which citizens can register their protest against the alleged sale of Goa’s land.
Party workers and supporters will conduct a door-to-door campaign across the State in the coming weeks to inform people about the issue and mobilise public support against the government’s land policies.
