CANACONA
The Congress is planning to hold its first public meeting in Canacona, as part of its protest campaign against ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for failing to relinquish his post in spite of ill health.
According to reliable sources, while the Congress has planned several such meetings all over the State, the Canacona meeting to invoke public support to its demand will take place at Chaudi, the commercial town of the taluka, on December 10.
AICC Observer (Goa Desk) Chella Kumar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, ex-CM and Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane are among the Congress leaders to address the meeting, to highlight the manner in which an ailing Parrikar clinging onto the post has affected the functioning of the administration and growth of the State.
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes will also be present at the meeting, the first such gathering organized by the Congress party since the 2017 assembly elections.
Although Canacona has been represented by Congress, the party did not convene any public meeting even during the poll campaigning.
