Effecting a major shake-up nationally, the Congress on Saturday reshuffled responsibilities of the organisation in several States among its office-bearers. It replaced the Goa in-charge Manickam Tagore with former Maharashtra Minister Manikrao Thakre and also handed over the responsibility of four north-eastern States to Goa's Girish Chodankar.
Chodankar, according to the order issued by the national General Secretary K C Venugopal, will be in-charge of the party in Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur and Nagaland where it was once a powerhouse but has lost sheen over the last several years.
Thakre, who is the new AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa, is a senior leader who in the past held the post of Home Minister of Maharashtra. He was earlier in-charge of Talangana where the Congress rode to power defeating Dr KC Rao's BRS which ruled for a decade since the State was carved out from Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar welcomed the appointment of Thakre as Goa in-charge even as he expressed gratitude to the outgoing in-charge Tagore.
"I welcome @Manikrao_INC as new AICC in-charge of @INCGoa. Also thank outgoing AICC incharge @manickamtagore Ji for all the guidance, support & his love towards strengthening Goa Congress organisation at grassroot level. Wishing all the best for your new assignment," Patkar wrote on microblogging site 'X' (formerly Twitter).
Patkar also took to X to congratulate Chodankar on being appointed incharge of the four Northeastern States.
"Congratulations to my friend Shri @girishgoa for the new responsibilities. Wish you all the best and I am sure under your leadership the Congress party will reach new heights in the Northeast States," Patkar said.
