The Congress on Sunday raised concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation citing complaints by activists of attacks and foisting of false complaints
and blamed it on the lame-duck stewardship of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is ailing.
Due to the chief minister’s absence from office on account of his ailment the governance, especially on the law and order front is failing, GPCC spokesperson Adv Rohit Bras De Sa said.
He demanded that the State government take immediate steps to appoint the chairman of the State Police Complaints Authority which is lying vacant for some time now.
De Sa was addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji.
“Law and order situation in Goa has totally collapsed. There is no chairman for Police Complaints Authority (PCA) since April 2018. There is a need for an efficient PCA to check police inaction or excesses,” De Sa said.
Alleging that the BJP-led coalition government headed by the ailing Parrikar is propped up by “two thugs” - one from North Goa and another from South - who have begun to loot and destroy Goa, De Sa said. They send their musclemen to attack people who oppose their illegalities, he added.
“They also threaten activists of filing false complaints and also assault anyone,” he claimed.
Making a mention of the recent attack on a BJP worker in Porvorim constituency, De Sa alleged that Parrikar has turned a blind eye to this assault.
“Although a complaint has been lodged by BJP workers, the police are
not taking any action. If this is the plight of BJP supporters, how will the common man live without fear?” De Sa asked.
