MARGAO: Congress Velim candidate Savio D’Silva on Thursday assured beleaguered seafarers that the Congress government would come out with a permanent scheme for retired seafarers and widows after coming to power in the February 14 polls.
“The BJP government has been harassing the people of Velim and the priests in the Velim Church attack case by foisting false cases. The police has even charged the priests for attacking them in that incident,” he said, adding that the case registered against him, the priests and the villagers were all false and fabricated.
Thanking the Congress leaders, especially minority leader Imram Pratapgarhi, for being instrumental in giving him the Velim ticket, Savio exuded confidence that the people of Velim will all rally behind the Congress to bring the party back to power.
In his address, minority leader Imram cautioned the people of Goa to beware of the BJP and its leaders, saying the BJP is working for its corporate friends and not for the common man.
In his address, GPCC President Girish Chodankar defended and justified the decision of the party leadership to nominate Savio for the Velim ticket, even as he exuded confidence that the people of Velim will never vote for Filipe Nery Rodrigues again. “Filipe Nery is contesting on the NCP banner this time. If elected, he will go and support the BJP to form the government. People of Benaulim had elected Churchill Alemao on the NCP banner, but he decided to support the BJP government in the last five years,” Girish said.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said the Congress party is the only option left for the people of Goa to put an end to the 10-year BJP misrule in the state.
