Congress leaders slam govt, call for accountability

VASCO

Congress leaders slammed the State government over the devastating Vasco market fire late Wednesday night, and called for accountability and measures to restore the livelihoods of those who have suffered losses.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao criticised the government over the lack of fire safety measures at Vasco market, alleging the absence of fire extinguishers and water hydrants.

He said the issue had been raised in the Assembly two years ago, with CM and ministers assuring action, but no measures had been implemented.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar demanded immediate relief and adequate compensation for traders affected by the devastating fire at Vasco’s market last night, while calling for accountability and measures to restore the livelihoods of those who have suffered losses.

Chodankar urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to personally intervene and announce an immediate relief package, ensuring that compensation reaches all affected traders without bureaucratic delays.

South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes urged Chief Minister Sawant to declare the Vasco Sunday Market fire a State Disaster and provide immediate compensation to affected traders.
