Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari has raised concerns over non-subject teachers being assigned the correction and evaluation of board examination papers in core academic subjects.
Bhandari said teachers of disciplines such as drawing, physical education, and other non-core subjects are being tasked with marking papers or even setting questions for subjects outside their expertise. He submitted a memorandum to Director of Education Shailesh Zingde, demanding an immediate review and withdrawal of such practices.
He insisted that only teachers with subject-specific qualifications should evaluate board exam papers, warning that assigning this work to non-experts undermines academic standards and fairness. “Students invest years in preparing for board exams. Evaluation by unqualified teachers can affect their results and future prospects,” Bhandari stated. He also threatened to challenge the decision legally if the practice continues.
