In a shocking incident, a woman has been accused of murdering two aunts of her husband with the help of a hired killer at Igrez-vaddo in Marna-Siolim on Sunday night.
Anjuna police have arrested both accused, Rovina Pereira Lobo (29) and Subhan Nur Ahmad Rajyaballi (20) of Haveri-Karnataka but residing at Assagao, in connection with the murder of Martha Clementina Lobo (64) and her sister Vera Lobo (62).
Police said the incident took place sometime between 9 pm and 9.30 pm. The accused, Rovina Lobo, was living with her husband Julio Lobo, their two minor children and Julio's two unmarried aunts.
Julio's parents reside at a nearby house but he was raised mostly at the house of his aunts and was employed as a driver for a businessman in Arambol.
According to reports, Rovina and Julio were married 10 years ago, but she had not been in good books with Julio’s aunts and would allegedly quarrel with them over property and other personal issues.
Rovina would receive Rs 30,000 from her maternal side as her share from the rent of some rooms. Police sources said this amount would be taken by her husband and use it on alcohol.
Police said Rovina had planned to kill both Julio and both his aunts about 20-25 days ago and was looking for a person to carry out the murders.
She had contacted a non-Goan labourer from Assagao few days earlier but he reportedly did not show any interest. Later, she came in contact with Subhan Rajyaballi who was staying in a rented room at Munangwaddo, Assagao, and lured him with an offer of Rs 30,000 if he helped her with the murder of both aunts.
Rovina then took accused Subhan on the bike in afternoon and hid him behind her house till late evening.
As usual, Julio took their children for an evening walk to the beach and later returned home. He then left the house at about 7.30 pm.
Both aunts were fast asleep in their room and Rovina put both her children to sleep. At about 9 pm, they cut off power supply to the house and waited at the door of victims.
When Martha Lobo came out of her room first to check on the power supply, she was attacked with a sharp object.
On hearing the noise, Vera came out of her room and she was struck with the same object.
Two two children, however, witnessed the incidents and the panic-striuken 7-year-old child rushed to the neighbour's house and reported the matter.
Rovina then escaped from the site on a scooter along with the accused, Subhan, and her other 4-year-old boy.
When neighbours reached the site, both victims were found on the floor covered with blood. They alerted Anjuna police and by that time, Julio reached home as well.
Anjuna PI Suraj Gawas, Mapusa PI Tushar lotlikar and a police team rushed to the site, while North Goa Police Superintendent Utkrisht Prasoon, SP Shobhit Saxena, DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai and other police officials also visited the scene of the crime.
The bodies were sent to GMC for autopsy and were handed over to the family on Monday morning.
Police picked up both accused from a rented room at Assagao and arrested them under Section 302 IPC. Both accused have reportedly admitted to the double murder and a court later remanded them to seven days in police custody.
Police said Rovina had reportedly told Subhan that after killing Julio and both his aunts, she would commit suicide. But before committing the crime, she would leave her both her children at her sister's place.
Under the impression that there would be no witnesses to identify him, Subhan is alleged to have agreed to the plan.
Police also said Rovina had bought 2 new Koitas from the market a few days earlier. She had also paid Rs 500 from the agreed Rs 30,000 as advance to Subhan. Police have confiscated both the Koitas and investigations are in progress.
