Those present at the meeting included North SP Umesh Gaonkar, DySP Mahesh Gaonkar, DySP Nelson Albuquerque, DySP Serafin Dias and members of sound pollution monitoring committees.
SP Gaonkar informed those gathered that a special flying squad along the coastal belt would be set up to check sound pollution and it would be headed by a police inspector or mamlatdar.
When the Sound Pollution Monitoring Committee members claimed that police inspector did not have the power to act against those playing loud music after 10 pm, SP Gaonkar advised them to contact him, the DySP or dy collector of the taluka concerned.
The Sound Pollution Monitoring Committee members then submitted a number of complaints against those playing loud music beyond permissible decibels and after the stipulated hours.
