PI Raposo was reacting to a letter by Prathamesh Mahale, who suspected that his brother, Vinayak, may have been murdered and had not committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree at Santarem-Bogmalo.
“The autopsy report has ruled out any foul play and stated that Vinayak had died due to suffocation and since the body was decomposed, the front teeth were missing,” said PI Raposo.
“I will, however, summon all family members on Thursday to address their grievance and will present them with the autopsy report. If they still feel that the death is suspicious, the police will consider re-examining the case,” added PI Raposo.
Suspecting foul play into the death of his brother Vinayak, Prathamesh had petitioned the superintendent of police (South) to direct Vasco police to re-investigate the case.
In his letter, Prathamesh had said he had filed a missing complaint on January 27, following the disappearance of Vinayak. On February 4, he was called to identify a body at GMC and he confirmed that the deceased was his brother.
“My family members and I did not believe it to be a suicide and accordingly, I made a letter/appeal to the police inspector to further investigate the matter at depth. I also requested the police to view CCTV footage on the way to the site, the existence of an unknown mobile handset at the site and two empty glasses with a vodka bottle (half consumed) as possible circumstantial evidence,” the letter stated.
“The deceased had three front teeth missing and the rope tied over the neck had three rounds over the neck followed by a knot, which is unusual,” the letter added.
Prathamesh also suspected a couple, who he claimed, was found loitering near his house on a scooter one day before the funeral, adding that their behaviour had been unusual.
“Above circumstances suggest that the death was not a suicide. Three months have passed, but investigations have not been done properly,” claimed Prathamesh.
