Educiana Rodrigues and Pratap Naik were elected unopposed as sarpanch and dy sarpanch respectively of Cortalim panchayat on Wednesday and have assured to take up pending development works in the village.

A special meeting was convened to elect the new sarpanch and dy sarpanch after a no-confidence motion moved by 7 of the 11 panchas member against former sarpanch Senia Pereira and dy sarpanch Santan Gama was passed on February 4.

While the seven panch members Pratap Naik, Educiana Rodrigues, Raymond De Sa, Agostinho Menezes, Fransisco Mendes, Angela Furtado and Antonio Joao Fernandes were present for the meeting, the other four panch members, Senia Pereira, Anita Kenkre, Santan Gama and Manuel Silva remained absent and the motion was passed with 7-0 votes.

Educiana Rodrigues and Pratap Naik were elected unopposed as sarpanch and dy sarpanch respectively in the presence of Cortalim Panchayat Secretary Krishna Gaude.

Later speaking to media later, Sarpanch Educiana Rodrigues assured to take up pending development works and appealed to people to approach her for any works in the village.

Dy Sarpanch Pratap Naik said villagers were facing a lot of issues since the last one year.

“We had issues with the Sopo which should have been collected and many vendors had begun selling products by the roadside without any revenue to the Panchayat. For the last 5 months, the garbage collected was not shifted for scientific treatment. There are many issues which will now be addressed by us so that there is no inconvenience of any sort to the villagers,” said Naik.

Meanwhile former dy sarpanch Raymond De Sa said the newly elected sarpanch and dy sarpanch along with panch members would work together for the betterment of the village.

“Garbage is a major issue and the other issue is that garbage from other villages are also being dumped at our garbage collection spot.”

“While the panchayat is plagued with financial issues, there is no clarity on allotment of shops in the new market complex. We will resolve these issues and take up development works across all wards,” said De Sa.
