A two-decade-old unsightly practice of jumping over the compound wall of Shri Gaitonde mini-sports complex to answer nature’s call is likely to become a thing of the past.
A councillor from Canacona Municipal Council (CMC), despite representing the different and distant ward of Patnem, installed a bio-digester toilet at one corner of the mini-sports complex, which is adjacent to the Deputy Collectorate, Canacona at Chaudi, at his own cost on Saturday.
The noble act of Patnem Councillor Shubham Komarpant received wide praise, especially at a time when the lone Sulabh Sauchalaya at Chaudi town has been dismantled and a new construction is underway, making it difficult for people to find a toilet.
Pained to see people struggling to find a toilet, Komarpant decided to take action.
Shubham donated a toilet with a bio-digester and water tank, costing around Rs 1.5-2 lakh, and installed it at the Shri Pundalik Gaitonde mini-sports complex, Chaudi Canacona.
“This was very essential since there has been no toilet at this mini-sports complex ever since it was started in 2001,” said Komarpant.
