Hitting back at allegations that MMC had not completed pre-monsoon works on time, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar on Wednesday said the pre-monsoon works had begun in April and were almost complete.

Gaonkar went on to add that opposition councillors must stress more on development works and completing the pending pre-monsoon works in their wards, instead of spending time on levelling allegations against him. It may be recalled that Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Monday had conducted a pre-monsoon review meeting with the MMC, Dy Collector and WRD officials and directed them to take up pre-monsoon works in low-lying areas on top priority within 3 days.

Former MMC chairperson Deepak Naik had alleged that the MMC had not taken up pre-monsoon works in areas like Baina and other low-lying areas, while alleging that works were given priority only in wards of the ruling panel.

Speaking to reporters, Gaonkar said, “It is the responsibility of councillors concerned to follow up and coordinate with the contractor to complete the pre-monsoon works in their wards. If they have not done this, then they have failed in their job. If they can’t work for their people, let them resign.”

Mormugao chairperson to face no-trust motion today

VASCO: A special meeting has been convened on Thursday to decide the no-confidence motion moved against Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar.

Stating this, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes informed that the presiding officer for the special meeting will the Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik.

It may be recalled that 13 MMC councillors of the opposition panel led by MMC Councillor Nandadeep Raut had moved a no-confidence motion against Gaonkar on June 3.

This is the second no-confidence motion moved against Gaonkar by the panel, the previous one being on April 25. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also unsuccessfully tried to intervene to resolve the issue.
