OLD GOA
According to eye-witnesses, the incident occurred at around 3 pm when Kishore Surlekar, who is around 40 years, was riding on his two-wheeler to deliver a package when the tree branch snapped and fell on his neck.
"The man had stopped a few blocks earlier and had asked for an address after which he proceeded further," said an eye-witness who further informed that a few seconds later the tree branch fell on him and he died on the spot.
The incident, though, saw the locals criticising the Chimbel panchayat for not cutting trees or trimming branches that were posing danger to the road users.
A local, Vithu Chopdekar, informed The Goan that he had verbally informed the panchayat about the danger posed by the branches of the said tree and requested them to cut the same.
"But nothing happened and today a life has been lost," he added while stating that the authorities should now act fast and cut the other branches which are also posing danger.
Old Goa Police conducted the panchanama and sent
the body to the GMC for post-mortem.
According to information available, Surlekar was working for FedEx Couriers and is survived by his wife.
The staff of FedEx too arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation.
