The South Goa Sessions  Court on Thursday released on bail the three brothers in the Velim  stabbing case, even as the mother of the trio on Thursday lodged a complaint  against Police Sub-Inspector Bharat Kharat of Cuncolim police station  alleging that the police officer mercilessly assaulted her sons at the  police station Wednesday night.

Rendel Fernandes, who claimed that he and  his brothers Shane and Elvido, were assaulted by PSI Bharat is admitted  at the Hospicio hospital. The Goa Police, however, has denied the  allegation, saying that there was no assault on the three brothers at  the Cuncolim police station, claiming that Rendel got himself admitted at the Hospicio with complaint of chest pain.

Rendel, however, told  the media from the Hospicio bed that PSI Bharat Kharat mercilessly beat  him and his brothers at the police station in a bid to extract from them  information regarding the knife used in the stabbing incident. His  lawyer Adv Amay Prabhudesai told the media that complaints have been  filed with the District Superintendent of Police, South Arvind Gawas,  DySP Serafino Dias in connection with the assault on his client by the  Cuncolim PSI, even as he disclosed plans to lodge his complaint against  the PSI with the Goa Human Rights Commission and the SPCA.

“Rendel and  his brothers were beaten up at the police station by the PSI to force  them to disclose the whereabouts of the knife. This is a disturbing  trend and I expect the police higher ups to take cognizance of the  incident and initiate action against PSI Bharat,” Adv Amay demanded.

SP,  South Arvind Gawas, DySP Serafino Dias and Cuncolim PI Wilson  Gonsalves, however, firmly denied any assault on the three brothers who  were arrested for attempt to murder in connection with the assault on  Velim Sarpanch Savio D’Silva during the Carnival festivities.

In the  meantime, the South Goa Sessions Court has released on bail the three  brothers who were arrested by the Cuncolim police for attempt to murder.  Adv Amay Prabhudesai informed that the court ordered the release of the  trio on bail of Rs 25,000 each with one surety in the like amount.

The court had directed the trio to report to the Cuncolim police station only upon a call letter from the Cuncolim PI.
