MARGAO
There’s no letup in the ongoing spike in Covid cases in the jurisdiction of the Margao Urban Health Centre.
If the Covid cases had breached the 500-figure mark on Tuesday, the number of cases nearly touched the 600-figure on Wednesday, indicating a sharp spike in the Covid cases.
A glance at the bulletin showed that the total number of active Covid cases in the Margao Urban Health Centre area were pegged at 591 as against 523 on Tuesday, a spike of 68 cases in a single day.
The number of Covid asymptomatic patients admitted in the ESI hospital Covid care centre has also gone up to around 34-35 patients on Wednesday.
Sources in the know informed that patients are facing the problem of getting beds in the hospitals, including the private hospital with the spike in Covid cases. A couple of patients, sources said, could not get a bed in the private hospitals in Margao and got themselves admitting in a private hospital in the Port Town.
Health officials have warned that the rising number of Covid cases may put a huge strain on the available infrastructure and logistics across the State.
While the State health authorities have asked the South Goa district hospital to enhance the bed capacity to 350, the government has also decided to utilise the ESI hospital as a back-up facility in the event the district hospital cannot cater to the requirements.
