Nigerian held for illegal stay
MAPUSA: A Nigerian national was arrested for illegal stay in Goa, Calangute Police said.
The alleged accused, Chibuke David Ghimson (30), a resident of Parra was arrested for failing to provide valid documents of passport and visa.
According to PI Jivba Dalvi, while on a patrolling round a foreigner at Agarwado, Calangute tried to flee after seeing the police on duty.
However, police chased and overpowered him and later nabbed him.
During interrogation he was found without a passport, visa or any other travel document. He was booked for offence under section 3(2)(a) and 6(a) of Passport Entry into India Rules, section 6(a) of Passport Act, section 7(3)(iii) of Foreigners Order act 1946 R/w Section 14 of Foreigners Act 1948.
Further the accused was found in possession of Activa scooter bearing registration no: GA-03-AB- 9339 which has also been attached by the police. The scooter was rented to the accused foreigner by Purnanand Korgaokar, a resident of Anjuna.
Accordingly, police also registered an offence against the scooter owner under section 336 of the IPC for negligently giving scooter on rent to a foreign national without proper verification.
PI Dalvi informed that this was a second such case registered against the scooter owner for renting vehicles to foreign nationals without proper verification.
The investigation into the crime is being carried out by PSI Jatin Potdar, LPSI Pramila Fernandes.
HP man held for rape, cheating
MARGAO: The Margao police has arrested a native of Himachal Pradesh for rape and cheating, a year after he had eloped with a girl on the promise of marrying her.
Police said the accused Babal Nandalal (35) was booked for rape after the girl he had eloped with became pregnant and delivered a child. The police said as he later refused to marry the girl, a complaint was lodged against him for rape and cheating. After the accused was arrested and brought to the police station from his native State, he has since been remanded to eight days police custody. The police are investigating.
UP native held for Mugalli theft
MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police has arrested one person Wasim Mohammed (24), a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh after he was allegedly involved in a theft case at Mugalli.
Police informed that the accused was arrested following a complaint that the accused entered the house of one Nilesh Raikar and decamped with foreign and Indian currency. He was caught by the local residents and the cash recovered from his possession. Police suspect that accused Mohammed was part of a gang of three miscreants who moved around in a Splendour motorcycle to commit burglaries. The police is investigating.
Colva Fama food stalls raided, LPG cylinders seized
MARGAO: The inspector of Civil Supplies, Salcete taluka along with officials of the petroleum company conducted a raid at a food stall set up along the Colva road during the Fama festivities.
The raiding party seized three domestic LPG cylinders, which were found being used for the purpose of cooking in the food stall.
Salcete Civil Supplies Inspector Arun Kumar Pillai and the petroleum companies raided the food stalls following complaints that the food stalls were not only preparing food in most unhygienic conditions, but were using domestic LPG cylinders in violation of the rules in force.
When the team descended at the food stalls, they found as many as three domestic LPG cylinders in the stall, which were all attached by the team.
The Civil Supplies inspector said the officials of the petroleum company later took possession of the cylinders after the seizure. The raid was conducted in the presence of Colva police. The raid assumes significance as it comes against the raid conducted by the FDA on the food stalls set up alongside the Colva road. Though the FDA officials had ordered the closure of the food outlets on grounds that food was prepared in unhygienic conditions, a couple of stalls continued to operate right under the nose of the authorities.
Four booked over consignment delivery
PONDA: Ponda police has booked four persons for failing to deliver consignment of ten lakhs rupees to party in Kerala.
Police informed that one truck laden with 16 tonne steel, worth of rupees ten lakhs, was suppose to deliver it in Kerala from Marcaim industrial estate.It had left on October 12 and was suppose to reach Kerala on October 15. But as it failed to reach, the officer Sanjay Garg of concerned industry from Marcaim lodged complain with Ponda police.
Two transport operator, driver and cleaner are booked under various sections of IPC. Ponda police are further investigating the case. Police team is expected to leave for Kerala.
