While the opposition-backed councillor Shashank Narvekar who has been keeping the ruling group on their toes was sidelined in the election to the mandatory committees of the Mapusa Municipal Council, Independent councillor Prakash Bhivshet who has been a strident critic of the outgoing chairperson and a staunch supporter of the incumbent has found a place in the crucial Standing Committee and another.
Various subject committees including the crucial two “ standing and market committee “ were constituted at a special council meeting, the first after the new Chairperson, Priya Mishal took over recently.
Councillor Ashirwad Korjuvenkar was elected as the chairman of the significant market committee in the Mapusa civic body.
MMC Chairperson Priya Mishal becomes de facto chairman of the key standing committee which passes all decisions that have financial implications in the council. Vice Chairperson (to be elected), Prakash Bhivshet, Vikas Arolkar and Anvi Korgaonkar made up the remaining members of the panel.
The following are the chairman and members elected to other subject committees.
Market Committee: Ashirwad Korjuvenkar (chairman), Nutan Bicholkar, Sushant Harmalkar, Kishori Korgoankar and Komal D'Souza.
Planning Development Committee: Sainath Raul (chairman), Ashirwad Korjuvenkar, Chandrashekar Benkar, Shubanghi Vaigankar and Sudhir Kandolkar.
Public works, sanitation and drainage committee: Sushant Harmalkar (chairman), Prakash Bhivshet, Shubanghi Vaigankar, Tarak Arolkar and Anand Bhaidkar.
Environment, garden, preservation of open spaces committee: Barbara Carrasco (chairman), Nutan Bicholkar, Viraj Phadke, Chandrashekar Benkar and Shashank Narvekar.
Lighting of public streets, places, public receptions, ceremonies, fairs, entertainment and library committee: Tarak Arolkar (chairman), Kishori Korgaonkar, Sainath Raul, Swapnil Shirodkar and Anand Bhaidkar
Garbage Committee: Chairperson, Priya Mishal becomes de facto chairman, MLA Joshua D’Souza ex-officio member, councillor Chandrashekar Benkar and two citizens “ Gaurav Pokle and Saiprasad Bartu.
All the members of the subject committees were elected unopposed.
