Culture policing: Bajrang Dal’s protest at Bhembre’s residence

Late night protests by Bajrang Dal workers at the residence of Udaybab Bhembre, the leading light of the Opinion Poll movement has left Niz Goemkars to wonder as to who will decide for them what to eat, drink, write, etc. Consider this. Udaybab faced a question last night from Bajrang Dal leader Viraj Desai as to why he did not write or comment on the Portuguese and the religious conversion. The Bajrang Dal leader was also overheard questioning whether Carnival is Goa’s culture. Sometime back, Bajrang Dal leaders have been involved in raiding beef supplies. The same Bajrang Dal had called for a stop to Julus processions at many places in South Goa last year. Interesting, isn’t it?

Law and order or selective action? Cops face acid test in Bhembre case

The men-in-uniform faces an acid test over the incident at Udaybab Bhembre’s residence late Friday night. The Fatorda police made its presence at Udaybab’s residence after the Bajrang Dal had ended the protest, throwing up a question whether the police had made their presence at the site upon any complaint or after taking suo moto cognizance of the protests. Now that Udaybab has lodged a police complaint, the men-in-uniform indeed face an acid test how they will go about the matter. Wait and watch.

Is Goa Police treading a cautious path post-SP Sawant’s transfer?

It’s a sheer coincidence that Bajrang Dal protests at writer Udaybab Bhembre’s residence came on February 28, exactly a month after the government had shunted outgoing South Goa district Superintendent of Police, South, Sunitabai Sawant on January 28. Sunitabai’s unceremonious exit from South had come just a day after she had called for a list of Bajrang Dal leaders spread across entire South Goa district. The Goa Police had faced flak from civil society for dealing with right wing organisation with kid gloves. Sunitabai’s abrupt transfer now seemed to have forced the men-in-uniform to tread a cautious path, least they incur a similar fate. Any questions?

Moti Dongor politics: Rane’s first time visit sparks speculations

What exactly was Health Minister Vishwajitbab Rane trying to convey when he repeatedly made a mention that he is visiting the migrant-inhabited Moti Dongor for the first time? Well, Ranebab along with Margao MLA Diggu had opened the Wellness centre at Moti Dongor earlier this week when he spoke about his first ever visit on the hillock. The last time a senior BJP leader had descended on Moti Dongor was Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant on the polling day in the 2024 Lok Sabha election along with Diggu and where the BJP failed to pocket the migrant block vote. Any questions?

Political storm brews over BJP MLA’s alleged role in beef trade

Who’s this senior BJP MLA named by environmentalist Maneka Gandhi for allegedly running and patronising beef “smuggling” into Goa from across the border? Well, a BJP MLA patronising beef smuggling may sound strange given that a number of organisations of the Sangh Parivar are opposed to animal slaughter and beef consumption. That Maneka Gandhi requested the Office of Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi to stop the MLA from supporting beef import into Goa before being exposed in the media only goes to show the MLA’s involvement in the beef trade. Any questions?
