MARGAO
With the leaking Cuncolim bus stand roof evoking anger and criticism from commuters, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias on Thursday virtually set a one-month deadline on the KTC management to replace the leaking roof or face an agitation.
In fact, the MLA warned that the people of Cuncolim will not allow a single bus to enter the bus stand unless the leaking and damaged bus stand roof is replaced.
The Cuncolim MLA inspected the bus stand on Thursday following complaints from commuters.
KTC officials tried to explain the Cuncolim MLA that the replacement of the damaged roof was delayed for want of the roof material, pointing out that the KTC will replace the roof sheets no sooner they are available in the market.
Clafacio, however, rejected the explanation, demanding to know whether the roof sheets are not available anywhere in Goa, saying he would take up the matter with the KTC chairman Carlos Almeida and MD to pursue the tender floated towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Cuncolim bus stand.
“If required, I will seek intervention of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to get the damaged roof replaced,” he said, as he tried to convince his supporters that the work will be done within the one-month deadline.
Meanwhile, the Cuncolim MLA also inspected the land outside the Cuncolim bus stand which has become an accident-prone zone for want of widening.
After discussions with the PWD, National Highway engineer and other officials, the MLA proposed to widen the stretch of the road running parallel to the bus stand to ease congestion.
