Cuncolim Police seize Rs 57L liquor from abandoned vehicle

The police has seized around 458 cartoons of whisky and the vehicle under panchanama.

Sub-divisional Police officer, Margao DySP Sidhant Shirodkar informed that a call was received from PCR Panaji informing that there is a complaint from one person complaining that his truck has been stolen and is being found abandoned at IDC Cuncolim.

DySP Shirodkar said the truck bearing Reg. No. KA 04 AE 2550 was brought at the Police Station by a Cuncolim police team head by PI Diego Gracias.

He said the complainant and the vehicle owner Mahalingaiah B C, resident of Madhugiri Dhoderi Hobli Tumkur Karnataka has informed that he had leased out the vehicle to one Ramesh Kumar Parajapat. “The owner has further informed that Ramesh Kumar Parajapat has not paid the lease instalment for two months and was also avoiding his call. Therefore he tracked his vehicle on GPS tracker and found the vehicle at Cuncolim IDC area.”, he said.

He said the police contacted Ramesh Kumar Parajapat to whom the vehicle was leased out as per the details provided by the truck owner and he agreed that he has allegedly taken the truck on lease from Mahalingaiah B C.

“Upon being asked about the liquor bottles loaded in the truck, he informed that his manager who is presently in Belgaum Karnataka will come at this Police Station and produce the documents. Today, the police made repeated attempts to contact Ramesh Kumar Parajapat on the phone number 9663759264, however the number was found switch-off. Till now, neither a representative or the manager have appeared at this Police Station with documents about the consignment in the truck”, he said.

Cuncolim PI Diego Gracias said the police has unloaded the liquor cartoons from the truck, around 458 cartoons, saying the cost of the seized liquor is pegged approximately Rs 57 lakh.

To a question, PI Gracias said the Cuncolim police is awaiting further instructions on the storage of the seized liquor.
