MARGAO
A group of citizens from Cuncolim, led by Savio Gomes, on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Cuncolim police over the alleged hate speech delivered by Gautam Kattar at a programme in Vasco.
In the complaint submitted to PI Diego Gracias, the group stated that Kattar’s remarks have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community. They said the statements were provocative in nature and could disturb communal harmony and public peace in Goa.
Gomes also pointed out that the remarks were made in the presence of public representatives, including the local MLA, which increases the seriousness and public impact of the incident.
He urged the police to take immediate cognisance of the matter, register an offence under relevant sections of the law — including those related to hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity — and carry out a proper inquiry. He also called for necessary legal action against the speaker to ensure such incidents do not recur and that peace is maintained.
